Xiaomi released its long-awaited Mi 12 flagship series two weeks ago. It was announced that it would be a China-only release. Details about the foreign launch were also kept under wraps. However, since Xiaomi began collecting product certifications, two Mi 12 variants — the Xiaomi 12 Pro and Xiaomi 12 — will soon be available in the global market.

The Xiaomi 12 and 12 Pro were recently added to Indonesia Telecom’s public database. The model numbers “2201123G” and “2201122G” can be seen on them. At the launch event, Xiaomi also announced the Xiaomi 12X, a third Xiaomi model. However, it is unclear whether the 12X will be released outside of China.
It’s a more cost-effective yet still high-performance variant. Consider the Xiaomi 12X to be the next-generation ‘Mi Lite.’ This year, Xiaomi simplified its naming by omitting the ‘Mi’ before the generation number. This tinkering is most likely responsible for the new ‘X’ nickname.
In terms of design, the Xiaomi 12 and 12 Pro are nearly identical. We couldn’t tell them apart if it weren’t for the Xiaomi 12’s slimmer size. It’s similar to how Samsung handled the Galaxy S and Galaxy S Plus phones. Aside from the standard matte black, blue, and pink colors, both new Xiaomi phones are also available in a premium mint-colored imitation leather finish.
This year, Xiaomi made their entry-level flagship significantly smaller. It has a 6.28″ diagonal screen. The Xiaomi 12 Pro sports a 6.73-inch display, which is more usual in size. Its OLED panel is a sophisticated LTPO kind that adjusts the refresh rate dynamically between 1 and 120Hz. The brightness is 1000 nits and the resolution is 2K. The screen is protected by Gorilla Glass victus.
