Satellite Networking is one of the three standout features that Apple Inc. has promised for this year’s iPhone series in recent posters and marketing materials. The concept, which typically involves communication without network coverage, is not new.
Consider being stranded in a remote area without access to a cellphone network or a way to transmit an SOS. You can send a brief SMS to one of your emergency contacts with location metadata and a description of the situation if Apple’s satellite networking is activated on the new iPhone 14 Pro.
It operates according to the phone-satellite-phone ping paradigm. There is no requirement for a signal tower while using collaborative US Globalstar communication because one of Apple’s satellites will pick up your broadcast and transfer it to the receiver.

Apple’s plans in this area are gloomy and fall short of Elon Musk’s SpaceX initiative, Starlink, and satellite internet connectivity. It offers consumers in far-off places both internet access and a cellular connection. The collaboration between these two industry titans is unlikely, notwithstanding the possibility of mutual benefit.
However, Apple’s satellite networking can still save lives in dire circumstances even without datastreams or socializing. Given how heavily the brand depends on the internet, enabling customers to send messages, whether for emergencies or not, from places without 4G or 5G connectivity may completely change the market’s trajectory. And who knows, perhaps Apple will move on to developing satellite voice communications.
